Basic Stock Chart Analysis – What Is The Wedge ? Today I’m going to continue our series about basic stock chart analysis; more specifically I’m going to go through a great chart pattern that works with trending markets that are temporarily pausing, before continuing the trend. On the technical analysis chart, a wedge pattern is a market trend commonly found in traded assets (stocks, bonds, futures, etc.).The pattern is characterized by a contracting range in prices coupled with an upward trend in prices (known as a rising wedge) or a downward trend in prices (known as a falling wedge). The Wedge pattern can either be a continuation pattern or a reversal pattern, depending on the type of wedge and the preceding trend. There are 2 types of wedges indicating price is in consolidation. A rising wedge is generally considered bearish and is usually found in downtrends. They can be found in uptrends too, but would still generally be regarded as bearish.
